Read the unit attached to the number

Confirm whether capacity is per shelf or per unit, and whether the shelf count includes the floor or top tier. Look for assumptions about anchoring, level surfaces, and evenly distributed loads.

Point loads behave differently

A dense object in the center of a shelf can create more local stress than the same weight spread across the deck. Use suitable decking and spread concentrated loads when the instructions permit it.

Load for stability and inspection

Place the heaviest objects on lower levels, keep the unit level, anchor it when directed, and inspect for loosened connections, corrosion, bent members, or damaged decking.
