Size bins to the shelf opening
Use inside shelf width, depth, and vertical clearance. Allow room for lid lips and fingers; a bin that technically fits but cannot be gripped is not a useful fit.
Match the container to its contents
Clear bins help with varied household items. Opaque bins reduce visual clutter. Gasketed lids can reduce dust and splash exposure, but are not automatically suitable for temperature-sensitive or hazardous materials.
Keep loaded weight manageable
Dense hardware, liquids, and paper make large bins hard to lift. Use smaller containers for heavy categories and store them low. Place light, bulky items in the largest bins.
